We were delighted to see Roots of Empathy receiving great coverage on the news last Monday night, highlighting the powerful impact of this much-valued programme in schools across Ireland.
Roots of Empathy has been running successfully in Scoil na mBuachaillí for many years under the dedicated leadership of Mrs Elaine Connolly, and it continues to play a vital role in supporting pupils to develop empathy, emotional awareness, and positive communication skills.
Many in our school community will fondly remember that our very own Baby Dave made headlines back in 2019, bringing national attention to the programme and its impact here in Clonakilty. Through regular classroom visits from a baby and parent, pupils learn to observe, reflect on, and talk about emotions in a meaningful and meaningful way — lessons that stay with them long beyond the classroom.
The recent coverage also reflects Barnardos’ call for sustained Government funding to support and expand Roots of Empathy, which is currently delivered in schools nationwide. We are proud to be part of a programme that continues to make such a positive difference for children.
