📚✨ January at SNB = Action, Achievement & Big Firsts! ✨📚 What a brilliant start to 2026 at Scoil na mBuachaillí! Our pupils have been busy learning, creating, competing, caring — and even making history along the way 👇 🎥 4th Class kicked things off with a well-earned cinema trip. 🔬 A huge milestone for SNB — our first-ever trip to the Young Scientist Exhibition, sparking curiosity, questioning, and big ideas. ⚽ Primary Cork Cups — teamwork and school pride on full display. 🏀 After-school basketball for 5th & 6th Class keeping energy levels high. ♟️ After-school chess club (4th–6th) sharpening minds every week. 🏊 Swimming for 3rd Class & Ms O’Donovan’s 5th Class. 🏐 GAA with Conan — skills, fun, and commitment. 🌍 Irish Aid learning broadening global awareness. 🚲 Cycle Right training, 🌿 nature walks, and 👟 playground visits supporting active learning. 🟩 Green Schools, 🟡 Amber Flag, and 🔋 Active Schools initiatives going strong. 🐔 School chickens, ♻️ bottle recycling, and 🌱 Gardening Club promoting care for the environment. 🎼 Music everywhere at SNB! 🎹 Keyboard, accordion, tin whistle & guitar with Kay 🥁 Drums with Eoin 🎺 Brass instruments with Ger 💚 Nurture Club supporting wellbeing and connection. 📚 Roots of Empathy continuing to help pupils develop emotional awareness, understanding, and empathy. 🎱 Pool privileges earned through positive choices. 🎉 Student Council win! “No Uniform on Your Birthday” is officially a hit. 🏅 Weekly awards — Gentleman, Pen Man, and Gaeilgeoir of the Week — celebrating effort and achievement. 📰 Plus a lovely feature in West Cork People celebrating our school community. 🌟 Looking Ahead to February – Even More to Come! 🌟 February is shaping up to be another exciting month at SNB. Pupils are preparing for Feis Maitiu, celebrating Irish language, music, and culture, while we officially launch Every Child A Reader, bringing new books, a refreshed library space, and a renewed love of reading across the school. We’re looking forward to welcoming families and the wider community to our Open Day, and continuing our focus on physical activity and teamwork through KlassKickz soccer training. Cookery classes will give pupils valuable life skills through hands-on learning, while a school chess tournament will put strategy, focus, and friendly competition to the test. 🎶 Music lessons will continue throughout February, alongside a wide range of after-school clubs, ensuring pupils have plenty of opportunities to explore interests, build confidence, and develop new skills beyond the classroom. 📅 Exciting times ahead — and we can’t wait to share it all with you! 👉 Follow our website and socials for updates, photos, and highlights from another busy month at SNB 💚
We were delighted to see Roots of Empathy getting great coverage on the news last Monday night. Mrs Elaine Connolly has been running this programme in our school for many years. Our gorgeous Baby Dave made headlines back in 2019! Check out our website for a trip down Roots of Empathy memory lane
🎱 Earning Pool Privileges 🎱 Our boys work hard to earn their pool time, and it has proven to be a really positive and motivating experience. Pool time isn’t just a reward — it’s something they earn through effort, positive behaviour, and making good choices. As well as being great fun, playing pool has many benefits. It helps develop focus, patience, strategic thinking, and social skills such as turn-taking and sportsmanship. It also provides a calm, enjoyable space where the boys can relax and connect in a positive way. Well done to all the boys who earned their pool time — a great example of hard work being rewarded 👏🎱
When the rain won’t quit, we get creative! ☔🎨 Our Junior Infants brightened up the gloomy days with their gorgeous umbrella artwork — proving that even endless rain can inspire a splash of colour and a lot of smiles 🌈💛
✨📚A huge well done to Ms O’Donovan’s 4th/5th class for their fabulous Christopher Columbus projects! 🌍⛵ The creativity, research, and effort on display were outstanding — from detailed fact files to eye-catching displays. We’re so proud of the fantastic learning and imagination shown by everyone involved 👏⭐
We’re not just talking clean energy — we’re powering it! 🌞⚡ Our school’s solar panels are cutting carbon, supporting learning, and showing students that climate action starts right here 💚♻️
✨ Hands-On Maths in Action! ✨ Learning through activity and exploration is at the heart of our school. Recently, pupils across different class levels enjoyed engaging, hands-on Maths lessons. 👶 Junior Infants explored capacity through play-based Maths and Science activities, using containers to compare more, less and the same. 📐 4th Class pupils took part in Maths stations, working collaboratively on practical problem-solving tasks. These active lessons support mathematical understanding while building curiosity, confidence and enjoyment in learning 🌟 #ActiveLearning #HandsOnMaths #LearningThroughPlay
🌿 Joe Walsh Greenway Walk 🌿 Ms O’Donovan’s and Mr Daly’s classes took full advantage of the lovely weather on Thursday with a walk along the Joe Walsh Greenway. The Greenway is a much-valued community walkway in our town and provided the perfect setting for pupils to enjoy fresh air, stay active and take in their surroundings. A great opportunity for movement, wellbeing and outdoor learning — all while enjoying one of Clonakilty’s fantastic local amenities 👟☀️ #OutdoorLearning #ActiveSchools #JoeWalshGreenway #ScoilnamBuachaillí
A lovely project idea 📸🌳
